About Ground Mining Medical
- Mining medicals are regulated by the Mine Health & Safety Act of 1996 in combination with Occupational Health & Safety Act of 1993
- The mining regulation requires all mining medicals (red ticket) to be reviewed and signed off by occupational medical practitioner (Occupational Doctor)
- The MWHS Test (Mining Workers Health Surveillance) must be performed on the hearing, as well as a lung functions test on every person employed.
- This act also requires more detailed questionnaires on hearing and lung function procedures. • According to the individual risk assessment the practitioner will advise what additional testing will be required based on these medical examination
Basic Medical Test Performed
- Audio Screening and questionnaire (MWHS)
- Spiro (Lung Function) and questionnaire (MWHS)
- Vision Screening: Titmus / Keystone (Full Vision Screening)
- Physical Examination & Questionnaire
- Vitals (bp, body temp, pulse, length, weight, BMI)
- Urine test (Blood, Protein, Glucose, Leucocytes, Bilirubin, Urobilinogen, Nitrite, Ketones, pH value)
- Glucose Blood Test
