Mining medicals are regulated by the Mine Health & Safety Act of 1996 in combination with Occupational Health & Safety Act of 1993
The mining regulation requires all mining medicals (red ticket) to be reviewed and signed off by occupational medical practitioner (Occupational Doctor)
The MWHS Test (Mining Workers Health Surveillance) must be performed on the hearing, as well as a lung functions test on every person employed.
This act also requires more detailed questionnaires on hearing and lung function procedures. • According to the individual risk assessment the practitioner will advise what additional testing will be required based on these medical examination
